形态
水下形态
水下形态的海洋鱼可以用海钓竿钓起。每种海鱼都有不同的习性，也会被不同的鱼饵吸引。
水下形态的海洋鱼也可以被Template:三叉戟炸起来，如果落在地面上则转为物品形态，但以此法炸出来的鱼不会记录是哪个玩家钓的鱼。
水下形态的海洋鱼有着独立的重量，且在转为物品形态时会继承这个重量，但是，除非使用模组或控制台，否则无法为其称重。
不同种类的水下形态的海洋鱼有不同的食谱。
游荡
当一群海洋鱼生成时，每条鱼都会记录自己生产时的位置作为“home”，然后整个鱼群会不时选择周围一个点作为“herd_offset”，之后在这两个点之间游荡。
口水鱼
口水鱼还会额外向可以灭火的目标喷射口水来灭火。
物品形态
物品形态的海洋鱼可以被杀死，并掉落不同的物品。
物品形式的海洋鱼在落到海中时会转为水下形态，重量不会继承。这被认为是一个 bug，可以用于配合三叉戟来刷新鱼的重量。
发光

阴影
不同大小的鱼有不同的阴影，通过其 prefab 名字来分别大小是最轻松的方法。
吸引鱿鱼
物品形式的海洋鱼拥有海鱼（oceanfish）标签，会吸引鱿鱼来进食。
猫粮
物品形式的海洋鱼拥有猫粮（catfood）标签，可以用于送给猫，猫也会将其当玩具。
热源

不过在背包内的[[File:Scorching Sunfish.png|24px|link=炽热太阳鱼]][[炽热太阳鱼]]不会发光，而且在同一个玩家身上的暖石不会受到鱼的温度影响。因此如果想让[[File:Scorching Sunfish.png|24px|link=炽热太阳鱼]][[炽热太阳鱼]]加热暖石以达到用暖石照明的效果，应该将暖石（或者鱼）扔在脚下。
燃原
[[File:Scorching Sunfish.png|24px|link=炽热太阳鱼]][[炽热太阳鱼]]在不在物品栏时，其作为一个燃原会点燃周围的物品。
腐烂
物品形式的海洋鱼如果不放在Template:锡鱼罐内，则鱼的新鲜度会逐渐下降，但如果放在Template:锡鱼罐内则逐渐提升。
所有鱼类的腐烂时间均为一天。
放到水里并用三叉戟炸出来可以刷新新鲜度。
谋杀
物品栏内的海洋鱼可以被右键谋杀。其掉落物一般与腐烂的掉落物相同。
食物
虽然玩家无法食用物品形式的海洋鱼，但可以将其喂给猪人等生物。
称重
玩家可以使用Template:Pocket scale或Template:Trophyscale fish为其称重，另外Template:寄居蟹对鱼的重量也有要求。
烹饪
物品形式的海洋鱼可以直接烹饪，其结果一般与先杀死后烹饪的结果相同，但会损失一定的新鲜度。
交易
物品形式的海洋鱼可以向猪王换一个金子。
作祟
物品形式的海洋鱼可以被作祟，理论上这会降低其新鲜度，但由于对应的代码被注释掉，因此作祟海洋鱼会无事发生。
食材
